Graham Smith is known for his photographs of the North East of England during the seventies and eighties. Smith is renowned for his portrayal of the working class people of the United Kingdom. Smith hailed from Middlesborough, one of the areas most effected by the onslaught of Thatcherism and de-industrialaztion or previously 'working' areas. His work was shown in the US and UK but Smith decided to stop making photographs in 1990. His work shows the forgotten North, the effects on working class culture, while remaining to show a romantic beauty.
